Filial Therapy Parenting Course
Access to Support Group
Filial Therapy is a research-based, parenting course that teaches parents and caregivers how to use some of the same ‘ tools of the trade’ that play therapists use to help children experiencing social, emotional, or behavioural problems.
The 6-week self guided online training will help you regain control as a parent, help your child develop self-control and increase confidence, teach effective discipline & limit setting of inappropriate behaviour, increase your understanding of your child’s emotional needs, and help you communicate more effectively with your child.
Who is it for?
Suitable for parents of children experiencing social, emotional, or behavioural concerns such as: meltdowns, early trauma experiences and high stress environments, depression, hyperactivity, concerns related to adoption or foster care, chronic illness or disability, inattention, trauma including abuse, oppositional behaviours, aggression, attachment issues, school refusal, attention deficit problems, violence, selective mutism, obsessive-compulsive behaviours.
Research shows that motivated parents can be as effective as a professional in helping their child. This popular training program allows parents to run their own therapeutic sessions with their child in the comfort of their own home.
What You'll Learn
Master the Method
Learn how to deliver play therapy sessions to your own children in the comfort of your own home, called “special play time” or Filial Therapy.
Understand and Own The Process
Understand how to become the therapeutic agent of change for your child. Rather than searching for examples of things you should do better, we aim to place focus on creating a safe space where you can be fully present with your child and you get to be a crucial part of your child’s healing process.
You will learn the key aspects of the Filial Therapy technique including skills such as tracking, empathic responding, therapeutic limit setting, returning responsibility, choice giving, and structuring through easy to use therapeutic scripts and real life examples.
